offer i saw recently for Walmart Global Tech SWE L5, Sunnyvale CA. sharing because there's not much current data out there. base: $175k bonus: 10% target (paid annually) equity: $200k RSUs over 4 years, standard cliff at 1 year signing: $25k
total year 1 depending on how you value equity: roughly $248k with signing included, ~$225k in a steady state year. this is below FAANG L5 rates but Walmart equity vesting is straightforward and the bonus actually pays out reliably, which is not nothing.
bentonville corporate roles run significantly lower. the Sunnyvale and Hoboken tech hubs pay closer to market.

10% bonus that actually hits is worth more than people think when you're comparing against FAANG where the 'target' is theoretical. what was the leveling process like? did they tell you what signals pushed you to L5 vs. L4?
numbers_only
they didn't share explicit leveling rationale but the recruiter said the system design round is the main L5 vs. L4 differentiator. if you can drive the design conversation and handle pushback on your choices, you land L5.

signing is $25k? that's decent. single-year payout or split? and is there clawback if you leave before 12 months?
numbers_only
single payout with a standard 12-month clawback clause. pretty normal terms.

this tracks with what i heard from someone there. the gap to Google/Meta L5 is real but Walmart doesn't have the same political overhead or the constant reorg anxiety, apparently. tradeoffs.
