nervous about VMware new grad loop, any intel on what they actually test?

got a recruiter reach-out for a new grad SWE role on a cloud management team. interview is in 2 weeks and i'm spiraling a little.

from what i can find online the process is pretty standard (screen, coding, behavioral) but most of the posts i'm seeing are from 2021 or 2022 and a lot has changed since Broadcom took over.

does the new grad loop skew more algorithmic? or do they go heavier on distributed systems even for new grads? also how strict is the leveling. i'm a fresh grad so i'm obviously L1 but will they consider bumping if the interview goes really well?

any recent info appreciated, even if it's just "i interviewed there 6 months ago and the vibe was X"

i did a new grad loop there in march. coding was leetcode medium tier, two rounds. one was graph traversal, one was DP. they're not trying to wreck you, but they're not easy either. behavioral was STAR format, one round, very conversational. no system design for new grad, at least not on my loop.

this is really helpful, thank you. did you have time to ask questions at the end of each round or was it pretty packed?

yeah each round had like 10 min at the end for questions. i asked about team velocity and got a pretty honest answer about some reorganization happening. the interviewer didn't dodge it which i respected.

on the leveling question: for new grad roles they are usually pretty locked to the band unless you have significant internship experience at a large company or a competing offer. bring a competing offer if you have one and ask directly. that's the only lever that reliably works.
