got a recruiter reach-out for a data engineering role at Two Sigma and i'm trying to get a sense of what the current loop looks like. most of what i'm finding online is 2-3 years old and two sigma changes their process semi-regularly apparently.
specifically curious about: how many rounds total for a senior DE role whether systems design is in the loop or just the SWE track is there a probability/quant round for DE or is that more ML/DS specific any take-home components
drop your recent experience below if you've been through it. even partial data helps.

not DE specifically but i did a senior SWE loop at Two Sigma about 8 months ago. 5 rounds, systems design was in there for sure. the quant round was lighter for me than for DS folks i talked to, more like "here's a production scenario with probabilistic outcomes, how do you think about monitoring it." not pure math.

two sigma DE is a bit of a hybrid. they care about systems design (pipelines at scale, data modeling, latency vs. throughput tradeoffs) more than pure coding chops. i'd prep distributed systems stuff heavily. no take-home in my experience but i've heard it varies by team.

that's helpful, thank you. the pipeline scale stuff i've got, it's the quant angle i wasn't sure how to prep for. sounds like i can deprioritize it relative to systems design.

one thing to add: the recruiter coordinator at two sigma is actually pretty responsive compared to hedge fund recruiting in general. if you have specific questions about the loop structure for DE just ask them directly. they'll usually tell you.
