got a recruiter reach-out for a mid-level backend role at Stripe, first loop back after a 2-year career gap. i've done a lot of reading but most posts i find are from 2023 and i can't tell how current they are.

if you've done a Stripe loop in the last 6-12 months, would love to hear: what did the take-home look like? has the system design round changed at all? how strict is the behavioral section in terms of structured answers vs conversational?

also any tips for framing a gap in the collaboration round would genuinely help. dropping what i know in the thread so others can add to it.

loop i did in october: take-home was a rate-limiting service. 72 hours, they said average time was 4-6 hours. onsite had 4 rounds. system design was 'design a payment reconciliation pipeline' which was fun and slightly terrifying. behavioral was two questions, about 45 minutes. felt more like coaching than grilling.

for the gap: i'd just name it plainly in the behavioral. they ask about managing ambiguity and cross-team stuff, not specifically about tenure. if it comes up directly, own it and pivot to what you learned or maintained during that time. stripe interviewers i've encountered have been pretty human about that.

seconding mobile_mara. i had a gap on my resume when i applied to a similar company. the behavioral interviewer didn't make it weird at all. just keep your stories grounded and specific, the gap doesn't matter if you're clearly thinking clearly in the room.
