State Street comp data, Senior Software Engineer, Boston, 2025 offer

sharing my numbers since i couldn't find much when i was looking.

Role: Senior Software Engineer (Java/Python, custody tech team) Location: Boston (hybrid 3 days) YOE: 8

Base: $158,000 Bonus target: 15% (paid annually, discretionary but they said it typically pays near target) Equity: RSUs, $40k grant vesting over 4 years Total at target: ~$221,000

Benefits were solid. 401k match up to 6%, strong health coverage, pension plan still exists (rare). No signing bonus, they said it's not standard at this level.

Not FAANG comp but honestly in line with Boston senior IC market for financial services. They didn't move much on base. I pushed, they added $3k. The RSU grant had more flex.

the pension thing is genuinely unusual. what's the vesting structure on that? most places have killed their defined benefit plans.

it's a defined contribution hybrid, not a full DB pension, but still better than a standard 401k-only setup. recruiter was vague on exact formula, i'd push for the actual plan docs before accepting.

15% bonus target in custody tech is decent. the financial services bonus math is different from tech startup equity math. if they consistently pay near target that's real money.

thanks for posting this. actual numbers are so much more useful than 'competitive compensation.' noting that $40k in RSUs at a place this stable is worth more than $40k in RSUs at a series B. at least you know the stock will still exist in year 4.
