i applied to shift supervisor at a few local Starbucks and got called in for an interview. i've worked in food service before but not coffee specifically. the job listing said one interview with the store manager.
my anxiety is mostly around: do they expect me to know the actual Starbucks drinks menu cold? or is that something they train? also do they ask you to do a mock customer scenario on the spot? i've heard some retail interviews do that and i really don't want to be caught off guard.
honestly any info helps. i couldn't find much that felt recent.

don't stress the menu. they're not testing product knowledge in the interview, that's what training is for. what they want to see is how you handle a frustrated customer and whether you can lead a team under pressure. think through two or three real situations where you dealt with conflict or kept things moving when it was busy. those stories are 90% of the interview.

ok that's actually really reassuring. i kept thinking i needed to memorize the drinks. thank you.

i went through a barista interview earlier this year, not exactly supervisor level but similar vibe. very casual, conversational. they asked me what i knew about Starbucks and why i wanted to work there. the manager seemed to be checking for enthusiasm and basic customer service mindset more than anything else. you'll be fine.

shift supervisor interviews vary a lot by store. some managers do a mock scenario, some don't. it's honestly store-by-store discretion. if it comes up, just stay calm, don't over-complicate it, and show you know how to de-escalate without making the customer feel dismissed.
