got a recruiter screen scheduled for a data science role on the Starbucks digital/loyalty team. if you've gone through any analytics or data role interview there in the last year or so, i'd really appreciate the intel.
specifically curious about: how technical is the SQL round? do they do a case study or just behavioral? any sense of what the team actually works on day to day (loyalty optimization? store ops? something else)? the JD was pretty vague.
happy to share what i find out on the other end.

went through an analyst interview there about 8 months ago, different level but similar team. they gave me a take-home SQL challenge, two tables, asked me to build a cohort analysis on loyalty members. gave me a couple days to turn it around. i'd brush up on retention metrics and think about how you'd measure program engagement, that seemed to be their main thing.

friend on the data platform team told me they're pretty focused on the app and rewards stack. think about experimentation, membership funnel, what happens to frequency after someone hits gold status. that's the analytical flavor they care about. not much heavy ML from what i heard, more applied analytics.

that's helpful. the JD mentioned ML but if it's mostly applied analytics i should adjust what i prep. appreciate it.

the behavioral piece is real, they do ask about how you've communicated data findings to non-technical stakeholders. digital/loyalty team is pretty cross-functional so expect questions about influencing without authority.
