collecting recent Square interview data points, especially non-eng roles

sre_sol · 4 replies

interviewing at Square in about 3 weeks for a data analyst role on the Seller side and i'm finding it hard to get recent info. most threads are from 2022-2023 and the Block rebrand made some things fuzzy.

if you've interviewed there in the last 12 months, would love to know: what the SQL/analytics round looked like (if there was one) whether behavioral was separate or woven into technical rounds what the culture signals were like in the panel

also curious if the Afterpay integration has changed team structures in ways that show up in interviews. any data points appreciated.

data science at square in q1 this year: sql round was real, medium-complexity, window functions, multi-table joins with a business scenario wrapper. they gave me a fake payments dataset which was very on-theme. behavioral was a separate 45-min panel, not woven in. two interviewers, felt more like a conversation than a gauntlet.

product analytics angle: the metric/product sense stuff they ask is pretty payments-centric. like, "what metric would you use to measure merchant health" type questions. worth reading about their seller ecosystem before the loop so you have some vocabulary.

this is really helpful, thank you. i was going to study generic analytics case stuff but sounds like i should really lean into payments context. going to go read their investor materials.

data eng there: the interview pipeline itself is pretty well organized. they actually respect your time which i appreciated. the afterpay thing does come up in systems context, like data consolidation challenges, so mentioning you've thought about integration complexity at scale can land well.
