Spotify senior engineer compensation 2026: base, equity, bonus breakdown (Stockholm and NYC)

Putting together data points on Spotify senior SWE comp for 2026. Sharing what I have; please add yours in the replies.

My offer (NYC, remote-eligible, senior IC / L5 equivalent, backend): Base: $195k Equity: $400k over 4 years (25% year 1 cliff, then quarterly). Stock is RSUs on the private market; Spotify is listed on NYSE (SPOT) so they're real and liquid. Bonus: 10% target, not always paid out at target, varies by company performance Total target year 1: ~$240k (base + 10% bonus + $100k equity)

Stockholm offer I saw (senior, L5 equiv, data infra team, 2025): Base: roughly 1.1M SEK (~$105k USD at current rates) Equity: ~$200k USD equivalent over 4 years Swedish benefits package is excellent (generous vacation, parental leave, pension contributions). Numbers in local SEK look smaller but purchasing power is different.

General observations on Spotify comp: Not FAANG-level on cash, but competitive for Europe-based companies. NYC remote roles are closing the gap. Equity refresh is real but timing is discretionary. Ask about it explicitly during negotiation. Band (their internal leveling) is: Entry, Senior, Principal, Staff. "Senior" maps to roughly L5 at Google, IC4 at Meta. Scope expectations are real. Negotiation: They have moved on base by $10-20k in cases I've seen when candidates had competing offers. Equity is harder to move. Push on base or sign-on if equity is capped.

If you have a recent data point, please share: level, location, base, equity grant, year. This thread is only useful if people contribute.

Comparable data point: staff-level offer (Principal in Spotify's band) in NYC, 2025. Base was $230k, equity $650k over 4 years, 15% bonus target. Total target comp around $312k year 1. For context I was a contractor before this so the full benefits package was also a factor in saying yes. Health coverage alone was meaningful.

Adding Stockholm 2026: senior ML engineer offer. Base around 1.2M SEK, equity $250k USD over 4 years. The H1B situation doesn't apply in Sweden but for anyone on a work permit there, Spotify does sponsor. Relevant for people considering the Stockholm option to avoid US visa headaches.

Good point on the visa angle. Stockholm is genuinely a path for people who can't get H1B sponsorship or don't want to deal with the lottery. The comp gap is real but so is the stability difference.

Senior data engineer in London (2025): base was around 95k GBP, equity $200k USD over 4 years. London office is smaller than Stockholm and NYC but they are hiring there. I turned it down for a higher offer but no complaints about the process.

Senior data scientist offer, NYC remote, early 2026: base $180k, equity $320k over 4 years, 10% bonus target. Slightly below the SWE comp in the OP, which tracks. DS comp at most companies runs about 5-15% below equivalent-level SWE. Negotiated the base up from $168k by having a competing offer from a fintech at $185k.
