SpaceX new grad SWE timeline - is 3 months of silence normal??

newgrad_neil · 3 replies

applied through their careers page about 3 months ago for a new grad SWE role, got a recruiter screen, then... nothing. no rejection, no follow-up. recruiter said they'd be in touch within 2 weeks.

i know SpaceX gets thousands of apps but this is really stressful, especially since I've been turning down other final-round opportunities on the assumption something here is still alive. should I just move on? has anyone else had this ghosting experience and then suddenly heard back? I really don't want to email again and seem annoying but I also can't just wait forever.

three months with no update after a recruiter screen is almost certainly a soft pass or a req that got frozen. I'd follow up once more, briefly, and give yourself a deadline. if nothing by end of next week, emotionally close it and move on. don't hold other offers for a ghost.

same thing happened to me, different company but same pattern. at some point protecting your mental health means calling the shot yourself. send one email, mark it done in your tracker, and go finish those other loops.

to be direct: SpaceX's recruiting is notoriously inconsistent on timelines. the team is small relative to their applicant volume. a 3-month gap doesn't mean rejection, but it usually means the req went on hold. follow up, but don't sacrifice a real offer waiting for a maybe.
