How much product sense prep do I actually need for Slack PM interviews?

I have a Slack APM interview coming up in two weeks and I'm kind of spiraling about the product sense round. Do they actually go deep on enterprise B2B stuff or is it more generic? I've been using Slack for years but I've never thought about it from a product strategy angle, which feels embarrassing to say out loud.

Any tips on what framing they expect? Do they want metrics-first or more user-empathy-first? I keep reading conflicting things.

user empathy first, then metrics. if you lead with 'the success metric would be DAUs' before you've even named a user problem, they're going to look at you like you have two heads. start with who is struggling and why, make the metrics follow from that. it's not complicated but a lot of people do it backwards under pressure.

ok that's actually super clarifying, thank you. i've been drilling the metrics framing and i think i've been doing it backwards.

spend some time thinking about Slack's enterprise customers specifically, not just small teams. the interesting tension is that the user (person in the org using Slack) and the buyer (IT or exec who approved the contract) have very different priorities. knowing that split tends to impress Slack interviewers because it shows you get their actual business.
