Salesforce staff and principal level compensation and equity structure: 2026 data

Hard to find good Staff+ data for Salesforce specifically so here's what I've collected. Three data points from my network, all 2026, mix of SF and remote.

Staff MTS (MTS III), Platform Cloud, San Francisco: Base: $250,000 RSU: $500,000 over 4 years Signing: $60,000 Bonus target: 20% Year 1 TC: ~$435k (This person had a competing Google L6 offer, which helped.)

Staff MTS, Mulesoft integration org, NYC: Base: $235,000 RSU: $420,000/4yr Signing: $45,000 Bonus: 20% Year 1 TC: ~$385k

Principal MTS (roughly L7 equivalent), Einstein AI, SF: Base: $285,000 RSU: $800,000 over 4 years Signing: $80,000 Bonus target: 20% Year 1 TC: ~$565k (This person had CTO-track background, negotiated hard.)

A few things to know about Salesforce's Staff/Principal comp structure: The RSU refresh cadence matters a lot. At this level, refreshes are annual, performance-gated, and can add meaningfully to the trajectory. I've heard 30-60% of initial grant as refresh in a strong year. The 20% bonus target at this level is more reliable than at lower levels. Sr director-level visibility makes it a priority to pay out. Remote penalty is real but not as steep as some companies. NYC to SF gap is roughly 10-15% in my data. Competing offers move the needle most at Staff+. Amazon, Google, Meta, and strong Series B/C offers all work. Startups that can't match in salary but offer big equity can sometimes be used as leverage on the RSU grant.

Anyone with more data points please add below. The more the better.

The Staff MTS data tracks with what I know from former colleagues. The Mulesoft org specifically has been paying up since the acquisition integration settled. Good data.

That Principal number with a competing CTO-track background is an outlier and probably shouldn't anchor anyone's expectations. Would be curious what the 50th percentile Principal offer looks like without a competing FAANG staff offer.

Fair point. My guess is without leverage the Principal range is $260-290k base, $600-700k RSU. The $800k was top-of-band with a very specific competing situation.

What's the typical equity refresh at Staff once you're in? 30% of initial grant annually sounds high.

30-60% was a strong year estimate. Typical is probably 20-35% of initial grant. But with a 4-year vest and annual refreshes, by year 3 the refresh can materially offset the cliff falloff. It is complicated.
