Just wrapped up a Roblox TPM interview loop and wanted to leave a record because the TPM process at Roblox is surprisingly different from what I'd seen at other companies.
Background: I'm a growth PM / technical PM with about 5 years, primarily at mid-stage companies. Roblox was targeting their Platform TPM track, which sits between eng and product.
The rounds:
Technical screen (with an engineer): This was not a coding interview, but it was technical. The interviewer had me walk through a system I'd shipped and asked increasingly deep questions. 'How did you handle coordination between the client team and the backend team when the API contract changed mid-sprint?' 'What signals told you the rollout was going wrong before the metrics dashboards caught it?' You need to know the technical details of your past projects well enough to answer three levels deep. If you're a PM who kept high-level, this will be uncomfortable.
Program design round: They gave me a scenario: 'A major Roblox platform feature is being rebuilt. It touches 6 teams across 3 orgs. Design the program structure.' This is classic TPM territory. I talked through dependency mapping, how I'd run a kickoff, what the weekly rhythm would look like, how I'd surface blockers early and to whom. They pushed on escalation paths specifically: 'What if team X isn't hitting their milestone and it's on the critical path?' Know your answer on that.
Execution + prioritization round: Similar to PM loops but more focused on 'what do you do when the plan breaks?' I was given a scenario where two teams had conflicting timelines and both PMs thought they were the priority. How do you resolve it? I leaned on 'go to the data': what's the business impact if each slips? What's the cost to the other team? Surface it to the director with a recommendation, don't just escalate without a POV.
Behavioral: Roblox TPMs are expected to be ICs who drive programs, not coordinators. So the behavioral questions were heavy on 'tell me about a time you pushed back on scope when you knew the timeline was unrealistic' and 'tell me about a time you had to make a call without full information.' They don't want 'and then I escalated and leadership decided.' They want you to have a backbone.
One thing I noticed: they asked a lot about working with creator ecosystem teams. Roblox is platform-first, meaning a lot of what Platform TPMs ship is tooling that third-party creators depend on. API stability, deprecation timelines, developer communication, all of that came up.
Offer: didn't take it (went with a different role), but the comp was around $185k base for a senior TPM level in San Mateo. Total comp first year was around $250k with equity.
