nervous about Paramount SWE recruiter screen tomorrow, any quick tips?

qa_quinn · 3 replies

got a recruiter screen with Paramount for an early-career SWE role tomorrow morning and i'm kind of spiraling. the job description mentioned streaming infrastructure and some backend stuff but it's hard to know what they actually care about at the recruiter stage vs later.

does anyone know if they ask any technical questions in the first call or is it basically resume/why paramount? also how long does it typically take to hear back on next steps after the screen? i'm trying to manage my anxiety about the timeline.

recruiter screen at most media companies is not technical. they're checking: do you exist, can you communicate, do you have a plausible reason for applying, are you in the right comp range. have a 1-2 sentence answer for why Paramount specifically. "I want to work on streaming" is fine but "I've thought about what it means to modernize a 100-year-old media brand" lands better if you can say it naturally.

ok that's reassuring. i have a decent answer for why i care about streaming infrastructure at scale, i just didn't know if i'd get blindsided by a technical question right away. thank you

one thing: ask the recruiter about sponsorship early if you need it. i've had companies put me through 3 rounds before telling me they don't sponsor. save yourself the anxiety and ask on the first call.
