Interviewing at Okta: What to expect in the loop

Primly Team · 0 replies

Okta's hiring process is pretty consistent across SWE, security, and identity-adjacent roles. Expect 4-5 rounds after an initial recruiter screen: a coding screen (usually on CodeSignal or HackerRank), followed by a technical phone screen, then a virtual onsite with 2-3 coding/system-design rounds plus a behavioral/values round.

The technical bar leans toward distributed systems and API design, which makes sense given the product. System design prompts frequently center on auth flows, token management, or high-availability identity infrastructure. Leetcode medium difficulty is the floor for coding; they have been known to ask graph or tree problems with a security flavor.

The behavioral round is real, not a formality. Okta is explicit about its values (transparency, customer success, integrity) and interviewers will probe for specifics. STAR stories with real conflict and real outcomes land better than polished summaries.

Timelines vary by team. Some candidates report offers within 2-3 weeks; others report 5-6 weeks with stretches of silence between rounds. Following up via your recruiter is normal and expected.

One thing that comes up repeatedly in community reports: the role of identity security in how they think about engineers. They want people who understand why the product matters, not just how to build it.
