okay so i passed the recruiter screen for a software engineer role at Notion and i honestly was not expecting to. the recruiter was really nice and the call was pretty short, like 20 minutes. she said next steps would be a technical screen and then potentially an onsite.
i do not know how to prepare for this. like i know Notion is really product-focused but i don't know if that changes the leetcode grind? and how much does system design matter for new grad? anyone been through their eng loop recently, especially at entry level? i'm really nervous about the 'why Notion' question because i feel like anything i say will sound corny.

the 'why Notion' thing is actually not that hard if you use it genuinely. pick one specific thing about the product that bothers you or that you find clever, and talk about that. way more convincing than 'i love your mission'. they can tell.

for the technical screen, i'd expect more implementation/problem-solving than pure algo grind. Notion engineering is pretty product-close, so they'll probably care how you think through edge cases, not just whether you got the optimal solution. but i'm not 100% on the new grad bar specifically.

good luck! the corny-sounding answer is almost always better than a polished non-answer. just be honest about what you actually use it for.
