Here’s what each stage is usually screening for, plus the mistakes we see people make most often. 1) Recruiter screen What it’s screening for: basics like location and work authorization (especially for engineering roles), plus role fit and logistics. For fab roles, candidates often get asked about shift expectations.

Common mistakes: Being vague on availability, relocation, or shift flexibility. Explaining your résumé without linking it to the specific team or site. 2) Hiring manager interview What it’s screening for: whether you can do the core job, and how you think. For Strategic Sourcing Manager candidates report emphasis on stakeholder management, supplier negotiations, risk management, and supply continuity. For Process Integration Engineer candidates report technical depth plus data-driven problem solving around yield, defects, and integration tradeoffs. For Manufacturing Equipment Technician candidates report focus on troubleshooting fundamentals, safety mindset, and working under time pressure.

Common mistakes: Jumping to a “single fix” instead of walking through a structured approach. Using generic stories that don’t show measurable operational impact. 3) Cross-functional / panel rounds Candidates report meeting partners like engineering, finance, and operations (sourcing), or multiple engineers/techs plus a manager (engineering and technician roles).

What it’s screening for: how you collaborate across functions, handle escalations, and communicate tradeoffs.

Common mistakes: Treating questions as debates instead of aligning on constraints (yield, uptime, cost-of-ownership, qualification timelines). Skipping documentation, change control, and escalation habits. 4) Onsite or extended virtual session (common in fab roles) For technician roles, candidates sometimes describe cleanroom protocol and documentation expectations, with emphasis on uptime and PM discipline.

Common mistakes: Not narrating troubleshooting step-by-step. Underestimating safety practices (like lockout-tagout) in your examples.
