applied about 2.5 weeks ago, got a recruiter screen scheduled pretty fast, did it last week and it went well I think? she said they'd be in touch but it's been 6 days and nothing.
I know 6 days isn't long but I have another loop that's moving fast and I'm trying to figure out if I should ask for an update or if that looks bad. Mercury is genuinely my first choice so I don't want to mess it up by seeming impatient but also I need to make a decision on the other offer soon.
has anyone dealt with this specific situation there? what did you do

6 days is completely normal to follow up. send a short note saying you have a competing offer timeline and wanted to flag in case it helps them prioritize. don't ask 'where do I stand,' just give them information they'd want to have. good recruiters appreciate it.

from the recruiter side: we are almost always juggling more loops than bandwidth. a polite 'heads up I have a deadline' email is welcome, not annoying. the only thing that's annoying is when people send three follow-ups in the same week.

also Mercury tends to batch decisions so it might be that the HM hasn't reviewed the recruiter notes yet. totally normal to be waiting a week. follow up once, keep it under 4 sentences.
