McDonald's corporate comp data: senior software engineer, Chicago, 2026

posting my own offer data from earlier this year since i don't see much for McDonald's tech roles in here.

Role: Senior Software Engineer, Digital/App Platform team Location: Chicago (hybrid, 3 days in office) Level: roughly equivalent to L5 at a large tech co

Offer: Base: $152,000 Annual bonus target: 15% (paid out on performance, not guaranteed) RSU grant: $120,000 over 4 years (cliff at 1 year) Signing: $20,000

Total year 1 (base + signing + partial RSU): roughly $207,000

For context: this is below market rate for a comparable role at a pure-play tech company, but significantly above what i've seen posted for 'tech adjacent' corporate roles at other large retailers or QSR chains. they are competing for real software talent now, and the comp structure reflects that.

they were not flexible on base but added signing when i pushed. RSU grant was negotiable with a competing offer in hand.

15% bonus target at a company that actually has cash flow is more real than the 20% target at a startup that may or may not make payroll. that's worth something.

RSU at a company with a $200B+ market cap and a stable stock price is also a different kind of asset than RSU at a high-growth-high-volatility tech co. depends on what you optimize for.

exactly. i'm not 23. i actually want the RSU to be worth what they say it'll be worth.

did they offer any flexibility on remote? or is the chicago hybrid hard requirement real?

numbers_only

hard requirement for my team. they said some teams are more flexible but the digital platform org specifically wants in-person collaboration days. they meant it.
