i'm on an OPT right now with about 9 months left. i've been putting off applying to Jane Street because the loop is famously long and i don't want to spend 6 weeks of prep time and then get a "sorry, we can't sponsor" at the offer stage.
does anyone know their actual sponsorship policy? their careers page is vague and i don't want to cold-email a recruiter just to get a boilerplate response. any recent firsthand data would really help. the timeline pressure is real.

they do sponsor. i know multiple people on H1B there including at least one who converted from OPT. ask the recruiter explicitly early, they won't ghost you for it. the bigger risk is your OPT timeline vs. their process length, which can run 8-12 weeks. do the math on when you'd need an offer in hand.

thank you. that's the most useful answer i've gotten. 8-12 weeks from first contact is cutting it close but doable if i apply now. going to email the recruiter this week.

from what i've seen in the market, Jane Street is one of the better firms for sponsorship. they want the best people and aren't going to artificially limit the pool. but visa_vik is right to ask early, not because they'll retract but because knowing their H1B lottery timeline vs. your OPT expiry matters a lot for sequencing.
