Not a HubSpot recruiter, but I've placed people there and talked shop with a few of their TA folks over the years. Going to share what the recruiter screen actually is, because there's a lot of wrong info floating around.
What the recruiter screen is NOT
It's not a technical screen. They're not going to quiz you on algorithms. It's not a hiring manager call. Don't over-prepare technically for this specific call.
What it actually is
About 30 minutes. The recruiter is trying to answer three things: Can this person articulate why they want HubSpot specifically (not just "great company, love CRM") Are their comp expectations somewhere in the zone for the level Do they seem like they can communicate clearly
The questions sound basic but the traps are real: "What are you looking for in your next role?" Most people answer this in a way that describes their last job. Answer it in terms of growth, team environment, type of work. Show you've actually thought about what you want next. "Why HubSpot?" They hear "I love the culture code" all day. Be specific. Have you used HubSpot's product? Have you followed their engineering blog? Do you have a take on the CRM space? One concrete observation is worth more than five cliches. "What are your comp expectations?" Have a range ready. HubSpot's total comp is competitive but not FAANG top-of-market. If you're expecting Salesforce-level they'll flag it early. Better to have this conversation now than waste everyone's time.
Timeline after the screen
From what I've seen, if the recruiter likes you, the next step is usually a hiring manager call or a take-home coding screen (for SWE). Turnaround has varied but I've seen 3-7 days recently. If you don't hear anything in a week, one follow-up email is fine.
The recruiter screen is mostly about fit and logistics. Don't overthink the technical angle at this stage.
