got a recruiter screen scheduled for a Senior Data Engineer role. asking around before I get too deep into prep.
specifically curious: how heavy is the values interview for an IC data eng role? is it the same 5-round structure for data/analytics engineering or does it differ? and has anyone done the take-home in Python/dbt vs. Ruby?
drop your recent loops here. even partial data points are useful. timeline, rounds, what they actually tested. I'll share mine when I'm done.

not a data eng role but I interviewed for a senior DS position about 6 months ago. 4 rounds for me: recruiter, HM, technical (SQL + Python case, async), values. values round was the same weight, two interviewers, 45 min. they asked about a time I had to iterate quickly on a model because of changing requirements. CREDIT values apply regardless of function.

did a platform/infra loop about 8 months ago. 5 rounds. take-home was in the language of my choice. I did Go. they were fine with that. the problem was a mini pipeline thing, nothing exotic. document your tradeoffs in the write-up, seriously that part gets read.

good to know on language choice. I was worried they'd want Ruby regardless of role. will do Python/dbt then.

my friend did a data analyst role last year and said the SQL round was pretty standard but they also asked about a time she had to push back on a metric definition with a stakeholder. so it's behavioral even in the technical context.
