submitted my application 3 weeks ago, got an automated confirmation email and then nothing. I've seen people say GitLab moves slowly but 3 weeks of silence for an entry-level role is stressing me out. is that normal? should I follow up? the job posting is still live.
also a little scared about the async take-home everyone mentions. I do okay in timed leetcode but building something real in a few hours with no one to ask questions to is a different vibe. any advice for someone coming in as a new grad?

3 weeks is on the longer end but not unusual for GitLab. they do a lot of async screening internally and their recruiters carry big pipelines. if the posting is still live you haven't been ghosted, you're just in a queue. I'd send one polite follow-up to the recruiter or via the application portal. one. not a second one 4 days later.

for the take-home anxiety: focus on the README as much as the code. GitLab is a writing-heavy culture. explaining WHY you made a decision is more valued there than at most companies. show your reasoning even when you're not sure it's the right call.

okay that actually helps. I've been thinking of the README as documentation but it sounds like it's more like a cover letter for the code.

I applied to a junior role there last year, got a recruiter screen about 4.5 weeks in. so you might still hear back. don't give up on it yet.
