Epic comp data point: software developer, Verona WI, 2026

dropping this for the people asking about Epic pay. i know it's a common concern before applying.

Role: Software Developer (their entry-level dev title) Location: Verona, WI (on-site required) Base: $85k starting Bonus: discretionary, was told 5-10% range RSUs / equity: none, Epic is private Benefits: good. health is solid, 401k match, profit sharing of some kind after tenure

total package came out to roughly $90-95k depending on bonus payout. for madison area cost of living that's genuinely comfortable. for anyone coming from a NYC or SF salary expectation, this will be a hard pill. but your $85k in Verona is effectively a much higher salary than $130k in SF after you run the numbers.

they are not a comp-maximizing destination. they are a career-building one if healthcare tech is your lane. make peace with that before you go in.

confirming this range is consistent with what i've seen on Levels and Glassdoor for Verona. senior developers (their internal levels) can get to $100-115k after a few years but there's no TC maximization path here. no equity ever unless they go public.

the cost-of-living adjustment math works but only if you're okay staying in Madison area long-term. if you plan to leave in 3 years and move to a higher cost market, you've been paid below market the whole time AND your comp history anchors low. just name it.

fair point. though their alumni network in health tech is real. ex-Epic on a resume opens doors in ways that aren't purely salary. it's a specific career bet, not a universal one.

the profit sharing thing is interesting. do you know if that's meaningful or more of a token thing? the way you phrased it sounds like it's conditional on staying long enough.
