got an offer last week, really excited, but i'm on an H1B and the clock is tight. transfer needs to start before my current employer notices i'm leaving, basically.
does anyone know how long eBay takes from signed offer to actual start date? recruiter said "2-4 weeks" but that's always the optimistic version. is the background check the bottleneck or is it something else? any experience with their onboarding for international folks?
2-4 weeks is realistic for a clean background check. the actual blocker is usually the start date negotiation with your new manager, not the check itself. get that start date locked in writing as early as possible. for H1B specifically, make sure their immigration team knows day one, they usually have a process but you need to flag it proactively.
i went through eBay onboarding last year (not H1B but complicated situation). the background check finished in about 10 days. the day-one logistics were fine, mostly remote setup. you'll have a lot of slack invites and not much to do the first week, which is honestly fine.
