really nervous about the Deloitte Technology interview -- is the behavioral round weighted as much as the technical?

interviewing for a Deloitte Technology analyst role next week, entry level. i've been grinding leetcode but a friend who works there said the behavioral side is weighted more than i think.

is that actually true? like if i nail the technical assessment but come across flat in the behavioral rounds is that a dealbreaker? i'm not great at the storytelling stuff, it always feels performative when i try to structure answers with STAR.

also, does anyone know if they care about 'why Deloitte specifically' for tech roles or is that more of a consulting thing?

your friend is right. for analyst-level tech roles at big 4, behavioral is heavy. they're less worried about whether you can code and more worried about whether you can handle client-facing pressure, which is most of the job. a technically strong candidate who sounds robotic in behavioral rounds gets passed over constantly.

on the 'why deloitte' question -- yes, they ask it in tech roles too, at least in my experience. the thing they seem to want is something genuine about the industry mix or the team structure, not just 'you're a top firm.' spend 10 minutes on their tech practice pages and find something that actually resonates with you. it shows.

STAR doesn't have to feel performative if you stop trying to memorize scripts. think of 3-4 real moments from your life, internships, class projects, whatever, and just get comfortable talking about them conversationally. the structure helps the listener, not you.
