Got an offer from Dell last fall, sharing numbers since I couldn't find good current data when I was looking.

Role: Senior Software Engineer (their internal band equivalent to L5 at Google, roughly) Location: Austin TX, hybrid 3 days in office Base: $148,000 Bonus: 10% target, paid annually, tied to company and personal performance RSU: $60k over 4 years, standard cliff at 1 year

Total first-year: roughly $162k assuming target bonus and a clean vest start

No sign-on in the initial offer. I pushed back and got $10k sign-on added. Recruiter said that's about the ceiling for this level without going to exception approval.

Not Bay Area money but Austin cost of living makes it work. The RSU is below what hyperscalers give but Dell's stock has been reasonably stable compared to the volatility at pure-play tech companies, which matters if you're actually counting on that equity.

for context: $148k base senior at Dell Austin is in line with what I've seen. the 10% bonus is real and historically they've paid it out, they're not one of those companies that announces a great bonus structure and then discretionarily zeros it out. the RSU being low is the tradeoff vs. hyperscalers.

how is the hybrid situation actually enforced? 3 days is what they say on paper but I've heard enforcement varies by team and manager.

from what people told me during the process: it depends entirely on your manager. some teams are strict about in-office days, others are basically remote with a nominal in-office expectation. no single answer, you should ask directly during your loop who actually tracks attendance.

I'll push on the stock stability argument a little. DELL stock has had some good runs but it's also correlated tightly with the PC market which is not a growth story. if you're counting on appreciation rather than stability you might be disappointed. the base comp is the real thing to optimize at Dell.
