Dell H1B sponsorship situation, anyone have recent info?

visa_vik · 3 replies

I'm in the final stages with Dell for a software role, offer coming hopefully next week. I'm on an H1B with about 8 months left before I need to file an extension, so timing on paperwork matters a lot.

Does Dell sponsor H1B transfers? Do they have an immigration team that moves fast or is it a bureaucratic mess? I know they're a large company so theoretically yes, but "theoretically" and "actually" are two different things when your status is on the line.

Also, anyone know if they support green card sponsorship further down the road, or is that negotiated case by case?

Dell does sponsor H1B transfers, yes. They work with a handful of approved outside immigration firms and the process is fairly standard. For transfers specifically, the turnaround is usually faster than a new cap-subject filing. That said, get it in writing in the offer letter that they'll cover legal fees and file within 30 days of your start date. Large companies vary on when they actually initiate.

green card is case by case from what I've seen. a friend there said they will do it for people past 1-2 year mark but it's not automatic. worth asking the HR contact directly during offer negotiation, not later.

this is exactly what I needed, thank you. I'll ask during the offer call. I hate bringing it up but you're right that waiting until I'm already there is worse.
