does DE Shaw sponsor H1B? and how long does the process take, realistically

visa_vik · 3 replies

i'm on an H1B and my current employer is being acquired so i have maybe 90 days to find something before things get complicated. DE Shaw keeps coming up in conversations as a place that pays well and treats engineers well, and i have a referral.

but 90 days is tight. their reputation is that they move slowly. is that actually true across the board or does it depend on the role and urgency? also does anyone know if they sponsor H1B transfers? i've been told they do but 'i've been told' is doing a lot of work there.

i don't want to blow my window on a long process that doesn't work out.

they do sponsor, yes. H1B transfer is standard for firms of their size. but the timeline thing is real, 9-12 weeks is common and i haven't seen them rush it for candidate circumstances. if you have hard constraints, tell the recruiter early and directly. some firms will compress stages if they're genuinely interested. no guarantees but it's worth asking.

i know someone who did it with a similar constraint. they were transparent with the recruiter and the firm did accelerate a bit, got it done in about 6 weeks. not guaranteed but not unheard of.

run parallel processes. DE Shaw is worth pursuing but don't put it as your only lane with a 90-day clock.
