Databricks L5 SWE offer breakdown, Bay Area, 2026

got an offer from Databricks last month, L5 equivalent. sharing numbers because the forums were thin on recent data.

Base: $215k Bonus target: 15% ($32k) Equity: 0.015% (4-year vest, 1-year cliff). at current valuation that's roughly $375k total over 4 years but obviously depends heavily on where the valuation lands at IPO or next primary round.

Total on-paper year 1: ~$340k. year 1 is a bit lower than steady state since equity cliff means no RSU vesting until month 13.

they negotiated a bit. i had a competing offer from Snowflake (L4, lower base) which got me $10k more on base and a small sign-on. competing offers at the right level are worth bringing up, they do move.

location: SF (in-office 3 days). they're not pretending remote-first anymore.

for context this was for a data infra team, not ML platform, in case team matters for comp calibration.

that equity math is interesting given Databricks is still private. you're basically making a bet on IPO timing and price. if it's 2027 at a strong valuation, great. if it slips or goes out lower than expected, year 3/4 vesting is a different story. not saying don't take it, just worth modeling a few scenarios before you bank on the total.

solid numbers. the 3-day in-office policy being real is the thing i keep hearing. they're not doing the 'encouraged but not required' soft mandate, they actually track it. for some people that's fine, for others that's a dealbreaker worth knowing upfront.

yeah my manager was upfront about it. tuesdays, wednesdays, thursdays are basically assumed. they said the team cadence is built around those days for design reviews and syncs. i knew going in, it was part of my calculus.

do you know if they sponsor H1B transfers? i'm in status now but need to find a company that will file in the next cycle. Databricks has been on my list but i haven't found a clear answer on their sponsorship posture.

yes, they do sponsor. my recruiter confirmed it early in the process since i asked directly. i'd still verify with HR for your specific case but it's not a blocker at this company.
