CVS Health comp data: Senior Software Engineer, digital health platform, Providence RI HQ

sharing my offer data from earlier this year since there's almost nothing specific to CVS tech roles online.

Role: Senior Software Engineer, digital health platform team Location: Providence, RI (hybrid, 3 days on-site) Level: effectively L5 equivalent

Offer breakdown: Base: $138,000 Annual bonus target: 10% of base ($13,800) RSUs: $60,000 grant vesting over 4 years Total year-1 cash: ~$152k (base + partial bonus)

Healthcare benefits are actually quite good, which you'd expect. 401k match was 5%. PTO was 20 days to start.

For comparison I had an offer from a mid-stage healthtech startup at the same time at $155k base, no RSUs, worse benefits. The CVS comp felt lower but the total picture was closer than the base number suggested.

I ended up taking the startup role but it wasn't obvious. CVS tech comp is below SF/NY market but not embarrassingly below for a company that size in Providence.

the benefits delta is real and people undercount it. if you're pricing healthcare insurance yourself as a contractor it can easily be $8-12k a year. so large employer benefits on top of a comp number like that closes the gap with startups more than it looks on paper.

10% bonus target is fine but what's the actual payout rate? a lot of large corps have bonus targets that hit 70-80% of target in practice, sometimes less. the stated target can be a bit of a fiction.

fair point. recruiter said "typically 80-100% of target for meets-expectations performers" but I didn't dig deep on this since I took the other role. grain of salt advised.

appreciate you posting this. CVS tech comp data is basically invisible online. the Providence angle is key context too, that's a lower cost-of-living anchor than if this were Hartford or Boston.
