i have a first-round phone screen with a Costco recruiter next wednesday for a warehouse operations supervisor role. it's a stretch for me since i'm new but honestly it looks like a place that actually promotes people and i could see myself staying for a while.
my anxiety: i have zero retail background. my internship was in logistics for a manufacturer, which feels close but not the same. do they care? should i lean into the logistics angle or try to reframe everything around customer experience? also how deep do they go on the phone screen, is it mostly resume walkthrough or are they already doing behavioral questions?
i know i'm probably overthinking it but i really want this one to go well.

lean into logistics hard. Costco's warehouse operations is closer to supply chain than traditional retail. they care about throughput, safety, and managing people under pressure. your manufacturing logistics internship is actually a decent setup. just translate the language a bit.

phone screens at Costco are usually pretty light on behavioral, especially at the recruiter level. they're screening for fit, communication, and whether your background is in the right zip code. come with one or two good STAR stories ready anyway because sometimes they surprise you, but mostly it's a conversation.

they hired a friend of mine with zero retail background for a supervisor role. he had restaurant management experience and they valued it because of the people management. background gap is probably not the dealbreaker you're treating it as.
