does citadel sponsor visas for SWE new grads? anxious about this

visa_vik · 3 replies

interviewing there next month and i'm on OPT right now, 60-day clock starts in april. i've heard citadel does sponsor H1B but i've also heard they've gotten more selective about it in the last year or two.

does anyone have recent data on this, like 2024 or 2025? i don't want to go through 5 rounds and find out at the offer stage that sponsorship isn't on the table for the role i'm applying to. their recruiter was pretty non-committal when i asked.

citadel has historically sponsored and they're big enough to do it without much friction. but the thing to do is push the recruiter for a direct yes/no before your onsite. don't let them be vague. if they won't confirm before you invest 5 rounds, that tells you something. you have every right to ask and they should answer.

public H1B filing data from 2024 shows citadel filing several hundred petitions. they're not shy about it. the risk is usually role-specific or headcount-specific, not a company-wide policy. for SWE roles in chicago and nyc they've been consistent.

the recruiter being non-committal is probably just them not wanting to make a promise before an offer is extended. that's standard practice, it's not a signal that they won't sponsor. ask again once you're further along. specifically ask: "is H1B sponsorship available for this role" and get it in writing in your offer letter.
