just accepted and wanted to put some real numbers out there since comp data for cisco is weirdly sparse compared to other big companies.
role: SWE, what maps to roughly L5 (they call it engineer III or software engineer III depending on the org, titles are a little inconsistent) location: san jose HQ hybrid
my offer: base: $188k annual bonus target: 15% ($28,200 at target, they said average is ~90-110% of target over past 3 years) RSU: $120k over 4 years, standard quarterly vest after 1 year cliff sign-on: $20k (this was negotiated up from nothing, initial offer had no sign-on)
total year 1 assuming bonus hits: roughly $240k-ish depending on RSU price at vest.
cisco is not FAANG comp. but the hours are saner and the RSU vesting is predictable. coming from contractor life, having the full benefits package adds real value I wasn't putting on paper before. worth running the actual math.

consistent with what I'm seeing for similar levels in SJ. base is on the lower end of the range for that level but the bonus hitting 90%+ changes the math. did they counter when you negotiated sign-on or just give it?

asked once via email, cited another offer I had in hand (real one). they came back in 2 business days with the 20k. no pushback. if you have a competing offer or even a strong market reference, just ask.

RSU refresh grants at Cisco have been inconsistent historically. I'd ask the recruiter specifically what the refresh cadence looks like and whether it's performance-gated before banking on comp staying level year 3-4.

240 all-in for L5 in SJ is real money but cisco is not the place if you want to sprint. the trade is stability and reasonable hours. some people want that, others don't. know which one you are before you take it.
