nervous about the PM loop at Chime, any recent intel?

market_realist · 3 replies

i have a PM screen with Chime recruiter next week and i'm kind of spiraling a little. i've been an APM at a larger company and this would be a step up to full PM. my biggest worry is the fintech angle. i've never worked in financial services and i don't know if that's a hard filter or just a nice-to-have.

does anyone know what the PM behavioral rounds actually dig into? is it standard impact/metrics questions or do they ask fintech-specific stuff where i'll be exposed for not knowing anything about ACH or interchange fees?

any recent experience welcome.

fintech knowledge is not a hard filter for PM roles there, from what i've seen. they care more about whether you can reason about constraints. if you can walk through why a payments product has different trust/error-handling requirements than a normal SaaS product, you're showing the right instinct. you don't need to know what a Nacha file is.

i went through a similar loop for a biz ops role. the behavioral questions were pretty standard: tell me about a time you influenced without authority, a product decision you disagreed with, a time you used data to change direction. nothing fintech-specific in the behavioral rounds.

from a hiring-side lens: if fintech background was required they'd have filtered at resume stage. the fact that you got the screen means they think you're worth the conversation. go in curious about the domain, not apologetic for not having it.
