Brex SWE L4 offer, SF remote, Q1 2026

Sharing for the data pool.

Role: Software Engineer, L4 (equivalent to senior at most companies) Location: Remote (hired into SF entity) Team: Payments infrastructure Base: $195k Equity: $500k RSU over 4 years (standard cliff at 1 year) Bonus: 15% target Sign-on: $30k (1-year claw back)

Total comp first year approximately $300k depending on stock price at vest. They use a fixed strike price on grants so the equity math is cleaner than somewhere like Stripe where refresh cycles get complicated.

Negotiation: I pushed back on base once, they moved from $185k to $195k. Didn't try to move equity, recruiter said the band was already at the top. Probably could have pushed harder on sign-on but I had a competing offer and didn't need to fight.

For reference: I had 5 YOE, previous role was at a mid-stage fintech. They did NOT require fintech background for this team but clearly weighted it.

the fixed strike price on equity is worth understanding before you take any RSU offer. it means you're not underwater if the stock dips from your grant date. compared to options it's a much cleaner bet. just check what the current 409A is and what secondary market activity looks like for Brex if you want any liquidity estimate.

$185k to $195k in one ask is a solid move. most companies say the band is full at the start of the negotiation. always push at least once.

yeah i just said i had another offer in the $200k base range (which was true, different company, different role). they came back in 24 hours. the competing offer thing is not a bluff, it works.

how was the timeline from signing to actual start date? some of these fintechs have long background check processes that delay start by 4-6 weeks.

offer letter to start was 3 weeks. background check was fast, they use a third party and it cleared in about a week. standard fintech stuff, nothing unusual.
