how intense is the PM behavioral round, really?

i have a PM interview loop coming up at Booking and I'm honestly a little rattled by what I'm reading. four back-to-back 45-minute behavioral sessions each targeting a different competency sounds... exhausting? and potentially brutal if you're having an off day.

can people share what kinds of questions actually come up? I know the framework is impact/collaboration/ownership/innovation but I'm not sure what "innovation" looks like in a PM context at a company that's basically optimizing a very mature product at scale. like, does it mean launching new features or is it more about process/experiment design?

also, do they share the competency areas in advance or do you find out in the room?

the recruiter will usually tell you the competency areas before the loop if you ask. they're not trying to ambush you. "innovation" in a Booking PM context is very much experiment-brained: designing a test, measuring it correctly, knowing when to kill a feature. they care a lot about not shipping things just because someone senior had a hunch.

ask your recruiter to share the competency framework before the interviews. most Booking recruiters will. they know the loop is intense and they want prepared candidates, not traumatized ones.

okay this is actually really useful, thank you. I'll email my recruiter today.
