Applied for a software dev role at Boeing. No idea what to expect technically. Nervous.

Got a recruiter screen scheduled for next week. Software developer role, commercial aviation software team. I have a CS degree, done internships at smaller companies, never at a place this... regulated.

I don't really know what their technical bar looks like. Is it LeetCode medium territory? Do they care about systems design? The job posting mentioned C++ and Python but also 'familiarity with aerospace software standards' which I definitely don't have.

Any new grads or early-career people who've been through this recently? What should I actually focus on for the next few days?

the aerospace software standards thing (DO-178C) is not a day-1 requirement for most roles. they know new grads don't have it. what they do care about is whether you can write clean, defensible code and whether you understand why code quality matters in safety-critical environments. if you can explain why you'd write tests even when you're not required to, you're ahead of most candidates.

okay that's reassuring. i do write tests. i'll lean into that framing.

from what i've seen: less algorithmic hazing than big tech, more emphasis on problem-solving approach and communication. they might give you a small coding exercise, but they're not going to ask you to implement a red-black tree from scratch. focus on your fundamentals and be ready to explain your reasoning out loud.
