Block (formerly Square) runs a fairly structured interview process that blends fintech depth with a startup-ish pace. For most engineering roles you can expect a recruiter screen, a technical phone screen (usually 45-60 minutes, coding + light system design), and then a 4-5 round virtual onsite. The onsite typically covers: one or two coding rounds, a system design round (distributed systems knowledge matters here, payments at scale is a real theme), and at least one behavioral/values round.
Block puts genuine weight on the behavioral side. They care about ownership, handling ambiguity, and working across functions, which shows up in their interview questions more than at pure-tech shops. Cash App, Square, and Tidal are each their own org with slightly different hiring cultures, so the experience can vary depending on which sub-unit is recruiting you.
Leveling is done in the debrief, not before the onsite, so don't be surprised if the offer level isn't what you went in expecting. Timelines range from 2-4 weeks recruiter-to-offer. Compensation is competitive but the equity refresh cadence and vesting schedule are worth asking about specifically.
