got a recruiter reach-out for Block (Square side, not Cash App) for a new grad SWE role. she mentioned there's a phone screen and then a "virtual onsite" but gave me no timeline at all beyond that.
has anyone done this recently? I'm trying to figure out how long to leave before following up, and whether I can negotiate timing if I have another offer moving faster. kind of stressed because I have something else that might close in 3 weeks and I don't want to lose it while waiting.
from first recruiter contact to onsite is usually 1-2 weeks. onsite to offer can be another 1-2 weeks. so budget 3-4 weeks total in a normal cycle. if you have a competing offer, tell the recruiter directly. they can usually compress the debrief if there's a reason to. they won't hold it against you.
I did Block last fall (declined to onsite after the phone screen). the recruiter was pretty responsive when I asked for status updates. don't wait for them to come to you, just email. they seem used to candidates having competing timelines.
okay that's reassuring. I'll just be upfront with her. I hate the games of pretending I'm not interviewing elsewhere.
