BlackRock SWE offer data: NYC, 2026

posting mine since i see very little current data for BlackRock tech.

Role: Software Engineer III (equivalent to senior IC) Location: NYC (Hudson Yards office) Base: $175k Bonus: 20-35% target (they use a discretionary model tied to fund performance, not a fixed percent). recruiter gave me a range, not a number. RSU/equity: not a lot. BlackRock is not a startup. they mentioned a sign-on grant but it was modest by big tech standards, around $30k vesting over 3 years. Total: estimated $220-240k depending on where the bonus lands

not top of market for NYC senior SWE but the comp structure reflects that this is a financial institution. the bonus upside is real if the business does well. also: benefits were strong, and PTO is actually usable from what i heard in the process.

negotiated base up $10k from initial offer. they moved on base more willingly than sign-on.

the discretionary bonus thing is a real wildcard. anyone know historically what the range looks like in practice for SWE III? 20% and 35% is a big spread on a $175k base.

i asked and got a non-answer. 'depends on firm performance and individual performance.' the glassdoor range for that role skews 22-28% based on self-reported data but that's a small sample. i factored in 25% for my math.

that base is roughly right for what i've seen in fintech NYC senior roles, especially non-FAANG. the equity gap vs big tech is real but if you actually care about stability and not watching your RSUs crater in a down market, the tradeoff can make sense.
