SWE new grad at Best Buy, any idea how competitive it is?

applied to a software engineer role at Best Buy's Minneapolis HQ (not a FAANG-level role, i know, but it's local and i'd take it). recruiter reached out within like a week which felt fast. but i have no idea how to calibrate.

is their tech interview actually hard? i've been grinding leetcode but i've also heard it's more practical/project-based than algorithmic. anyone been through their SWE loop recently? trying to figure out where to put my prep energy before the next call.

it's not leetcode-hard. i did a tech screen a while back (for a mobile role) and it was more of a live coding thing where they wanted to see how you think and communicate rather than whether you know the optimal algorithm. still prep your basics but don't burn yourself out on hard dp problems for this one.

oh that's actually reassuring. do you remember if they used coderpad or something else?

shared google doc, which felt very low stakes. narrate what you're doing. that was clearly what they wanted.

best buy actually hired a couple people from my bootcamp cohort. they're not looking for googlers, they want people who can ship and collaborate. the behavioral side is probably just as important as the technical. prep both equally imo.
