sharing my offer from earlier this year. sr. SWE, 6 YOE, backend/distributed systems focus, Minneapolis HQ (hybrid 3 days).

base: $148,000 bonus target: 10% (they said historically paying out close to target) RSU: $80,000 vested over 4 years benefits: medical/dental/vision, 401k with 5% match, employee discount (which is real money if you buy electronics)

total first-year TC came out around $176k with expected bonus included. HCOL-adjusted this is reasonable for Minneapolis but it's not seattle/sf money, obviously. they came in a bit below my ask and said the band was firm. i countered on RSU and they moved it up $10k.

think the range for this level is roughly $130-165k base depending on specialization. data and ML-adjacent roles seem to track higher.

the 10% bonus target that actually pays out close to target is notable. a lot of companies have 15% targets that pay at 60% and the math is worse. if this one actually delivers 9-10% consistently that's a real number.

yeah i dug into glassdoor and indeed bonus reviews before accepting. heard mixed things for manufacturing/retail adjacent roles but tech orgs specifically seemed to track well. ymmv.

the employee discount is real. i knew someone there who basically replaced every appliance in a new house at a significant discount. for certain life stages that's actual money, not a perk you never use.

the RSU negotiation working is good to know. i always forget to try that when base is 'firm.' moving $10k on equity is often easier than moving base at companies with tight bands.
