how long does amex take between final round and offer? losing my mind

finance_faye · 3 replies

did my final panel two weeks ago, recruiter said i'd hear 'within a week or so.' it's been 10 business days. i sent a follow-up email 4 days ago and got a reply saying 'still in review, we'll reach out soon.'

i have another offer expiring in 12 days and i don't know if i should push or just wait. is two weeks post-final normal for them? every thread i find online is from 2019.

two weeks post-final at a large financial institution is not unusual, but 'still in review' after a follow-up usually means either: (a) the hiring committee hasn't met yet, (b) budget approval is stuck, or (c) they're waiting on a competing candidate. none of those reflect on you specifically. if you have a real competing offer with a hard deadline, tell them. recruiters can sometimes accelerate things when there's a genuine deadline. 'i have an offer expiring on [date], amex is my first choice, is there any way to know timing by then' is a completely normal ask.

in-house recruiter here: tell them about the deadline. we hate surprises. if the hiring manager hasn't sent their debrief notes yet or the committee hasn't convened, a real deadline is actually the kick that moves things. they might still not be able to meet your timeline, but at least you'll know.

went through a similar situation with a big bank last year. finally just sent an email with the deadline and said i'd need to know by a specific date. they came back with the offer two days later. they had it ready, it was just sitting in an approval queue.
