H1B transfer to Amazon: is the timeline manageable?

visa_vik · 3 replies

considering applying to Amazon but i'm on an H1B with about 4 months on my current employer's authorization. the concern is less about the interview timeline and more about how fast they actually move on the transfer paperwork after an offer.

anyone have a real data point here? i've heard amazon has a decent immigration team but also that there's variation by team / org. if i get an offer in month 1 but the transfer takes 10 weeks that puts me in a bad spot.

data point from 2024: offer signed to H1B transfer filed was about 5 weeks for me. amazon uses a law firm called Fragomen for most of this. the recruiter coordinator was responsive when i asked directly. if your situation is time-sensitive just tell the recruiter upfront, they can sometimes expedite. premium processing is also available, worth asking if they'll cover it.

amazon's immigration support is better than a lot of places of that size, but 'decent' does depend on which org you land in. AWS vs Alexa vs Devices can have different recruiting infrastructure. just be upfront with the recruiter about timing constraints as early as possible, don't wait until after the offer.

thank you both. being upfront is probably right, i just always worry it signals desperation or something. will try.
