Completed the Allstate onsite (virtual, via Teams) two weeks ago for a mid-senior frontend SWE role. Sharing because the final round structure wasn't what I expected going in.
Format
Five separate video calls over about 5.5 hours with breaks in between. My loop was: Technical coding round (60 min) - one interviewer, LeetCode-style problem in JavaScript. I was given a tree traversal problem and a follow-up that added a constraint. Medium difficulty overall. System design (60 min) - see my other post or search this channel, covered above by someone else. Behavioral 1 (45 min) - "collaboration and conflict" theme Hiring manager conversation (45 min) - mix of behavioral and team-fit, some technical discussion Cross-functional panel (45 min) - two people, including someone from a product/design side
The cross-functional panel was the one I wasn't expecting. They wanted to see that I could work with non-engineers. A lot of questions about how I communicate tradeoffs to stakeholders, how I've pushed back on design decisions, and how I've partnered with PMs. If you come from a company with siloed engineering culture, think about how to tell stories that show cross-functional partnership.
Pacing and logistics
Recruiter sent a detailed schedule the day before. Each call had a different Zoom/Teams link. I had water and a notepad. Breaks were about 10-15 minutes. By interview 4 I was tired. That's just the reality of a 5-session loop.
What stood out about Allstate's style
Interviewers were prepared. They'd clearly read my resume. The hiring manager referenced a specific project I mentioned in the phone screen, which means notes are being passed. That's a good sign for how organized the team is.
Timeline after
Decision in 7 business days. Recruiter reached out on day 6. I got the offer.
