Allstate SWE III offer data, Northbrook IL, 2026

dropping numbers since I couldn't find fresh data when I was deciding:

Role: Software Engineer III (their mid-level equivalent) Location: Northbrook IL, hybrid 3x/week TC breakdown: Base: $118k Annual bonus target: 10% ($11.8k) RSU: $28k total grant, 3-year vest, front-loaded 40%/30%/30% Approx total first-year TC: ~$141k including partial RSU vest

Benefits: solid health coverage, 401k match up to 4%, employee stock purchase plan with 10% discount. PTO is 18 days to start which is below market but not terrible.

for context: competing offer was $155k TC fully remote at a fintech. I took the fintech. Allstate wouldn't move much on base (went from $112k to $118k) but matched on bonus target after a little back and forth. RSUs are non-trivial for a non-tech company. if you want stability and good benefits and are fine with suburban IL office life, the comp is fair. it's not SF or NYC money but neither is Northbrook.

appreciate the breakdown. the RSU structure is better than I expected for an insurance co. did they have a signing bonus or was that completely off the table?

no signing bonus offered, i asked and they said it wasn't part of the comp structure for that level. could potentially be different for senior+ or if you have a competing offer you're using as leverage.

the 401k match to 4% is worth factoring in. at $118k base that's another $4,720/yr guaranteed. plus the ESPP 10% discount is free money if you flip immediately. total effective comp is closer to $147k-ish if you max both. just saying, the headline TC undersells it a bit.

this is really useful context for calibrating. do you know if they have remote options for SWE III or is it exclusively the hybrid arrangement?
