Airbnb Interview Process: What to Expect

Primly Team · 0 replies

Airbnb's interview loop is well-documented and relatively consistent. For most SWE roles, expect 5-6 rounds: a recruiter screen, a technical phone screen (live coding, usually one medium-hard LC problem), and then 4 virtual onsite rounds covering coding, systems design, a cross-functional collaboration round, and a culture/values round they call the 'Core Values' interview.

The Core Values round is the one that trips people up. Airbnb is serious about belonging and community, and they expect behavioral answers that directly reflect their values: Champion the Mission, Be a Host, Embrace the Adventure, and Be a Cereal Entrepreneur (yes, that one is real). Study those four. Not as buzzwords to drop, but as frameworks for structuring your STAR stories.

Systems design is standard-to-strong. Questions tend toward marketplace and trust/safety infrastructure: rating systems, search ranking, fraud detection, booking flows. Know how to talk through consistency tradeoffs in distributed systems.

Comp expectations: Airbnb pays at or slightly below top-of-FAANG for engineering, offset (in theory) by mission and culture. RSUs vest on a 4-year schedule with a one-year cliff.

Timeline from recruiter contact to offer has historically been 3-5 weeks.
