Airbnb SWE L5 offer, SF, June 2026

Sharing for data. Airbnb SWE L5 (equivalent to E5/senior at most companies), SF Bay Area, offer received June 2026.

Base: $215k Target bonus: 15% ($32k) RSU grant: $480k over 4 years, standard cliff at 1 year Total year 1 (post-cliff): ~$367k with no stock appreciation

No sign-on offered initially. Pushed back once, they came up with $30k sign-on. Total comp year 1 with sign-on: ~$397k.

For context: L5 at Airbnb is solid but not top-of-market vs. current FAANG bands. Google/Meta L5 is running $430-480k TC in this market. Stripe is slightly lower than Airbnb. Amazon is lower.

I took it. The role had better technical scope than the competing offer and I'm done with the Amazon leadership principle grind.

thanks for posting actual numbers. the 'slightly below top FAANG' positioning checks out. did you get any indication whether the $30k sign-on was the ceiling or were you leaving money on the table?

recruiter said sign-on was flexible up to $40k for my level. i only pushed once, didn't have a competing offer in hand at that point. if you have another offer, use it, sign-on will move. RSU grant was harder to move in my experience.

the 'done with amazon leadership principle grind' is my exact emotional state right now. what was the technical scope difference that made you choose airbnb over the competing offer?

one thing to model: Airbnb's RSU cliff is 1 year but the quarterly vesting after that is real. also check whether your grant refreshes annually or at performance cycles. some companies have gotten stingy on refresh grants in 2025-2026 and it hits L5s harder than L6+.
